Description:
At the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, Anglesea boasts a compact but excellent cross- country network of around 25 km of sanctioned trails. All the trails run in both directions which effectively doubles up the distance.
Anglesea is highly rated for its use of the terrain, with pinchy climbs, ripping descents, and twisting singletrack. What keeps it interesting is the range of surfaces under your tyres: sandy one minute, then loose baby-head rocks, then forest dirt – you constantly need to be assessing the grip.
While there are no major technical challenges on the trails (they are all green or blue rated), the faster you go, the more challenging they become. Equally fun on a light XC or longer travel trail bike. Maybe leave the DH rig at home though.
Tracks 1 and 2 run along the top of the ridge so are relatively flat and ideal for beginners or families. There’s a series of skills challenges along track 2 to keep enthusiastic youngsters (or oldies) entertained on the family ride.
All trails are linked by waymarked fireroads and are marked at each end. There’s a map at the trailhead and one at the other end of the park at the Forest Road roundabout.
There’s not much in the way of facilities at the trailhead, but post/mid ride refreshment and toilets can be found at the Chocolatery which is just the other side of the GOR, or it’s just a short drive/ride into the Anglesea township.
Surf Coast MTB Club has monthly working bees to keep the trails in tip top condition and they run regular skills days and social rides.
